Literature Appropriate for Children

I am by no means an expert in children's literature, but I know that quite a few of the books I have reviewed on this site are suitable for children. As a guideline, I used the Dover Publications website listing of children's books to help determine which ones to include here. The majority of books that I purchase are from Dover, including books in their children's section. I also added others that I thought would be good reading for kids, either for subject matter or because there was a lesson to be learned from the story. I have not divided them into age groups. Many of these books would be suitable for an adult to read to younger children. And, of course, there will always be some controversial ones, such as books by Mark Twain which have fallen out of favor in some schools because some of the words he uses are not considered politically correct, or are derogatory in modern language. You be the judge—these are only suggestions.
Please note: I am not including coloring books in this index because most coloring books are suitable for children.
