Dover Coloring Book

Text Box with description of Book

This beautiful book is perfect for anyone interested in learning about state symbols. The birds and flowers of each state are pictured in alphabetical order (beginning with the national eagle and rose). The artwork is lovely and creative, with the birds in a variety of poses: some in trees, others on the ground, with varying complexity of background. In doing this book, you will discover lots of interesting facts, such as the cardinal being the most popular state bird (a whopping 7 states chose it!). If you want to learn even more about state symbols, there is a website at statesymbolsusa.org—a great companion to this book, where you can find lots of fun and amusing facts about all the states. This book also inspired me to learn about my own Ohio bird population, and to learn to identify their calls.

The pictures in this book are so cool that I had a difficult time deciding what to post! Please note: in order to practice gender equality, I colored birds in both the male and female colors; for example, Wisconsin's robin is in female colors. (For some birds, both genders look alike, a fact of which I was previously unaware!) Also, please note: in Tennessee's picture, there was no background—I drew that in.
