Dover Coloring Book

Text Box with description of Book

This book is only out of print in the standard coloring book version. It is one of the many that has been converted to a "Creative Haven" book, meaning that it now has perforated pages and is printed on only one side, so colorists may use paints, markers, or gel pens without worry of bleed-through. It also means that one picture will be repeated, since the CH books have thirty-one rather than thirty pages and Dover is too cheap to add an additional picture.

Tarbox did an earlier version of flower arrangements called Floral Bouquets Coloring Book. I have it, but have not colored it yet. It is the better of the two, because there is a much greater variety of flowers than in this one. I have a couple issues with this present book. One is that there are too many roses and poppies—at least I think that's what they are, which brings me to the second issue: There are too many generic-looking flowers that I really could not tell what they were supposed to be. I raise lots of flowers here on the farm, so I am knowledgeable. But some of these looked like one type of flower, but the foliage looked like another. I would have appreciated labeling. But I am picky about that sort of thing. If you go in with the mindset that these are simply designs to color, everything will be cool.

And flowers are not easy to color. Maybe it's because I grow them and want to do them justice, so I really struggled with this book. But I had plenty that turned out pleasing. Here are a few, on pages 2, 3, 8, 15, 18, and 24, respectively.
