Dover Coloring Book

Text Box with description of Book

Dover first published this book in 1971, which is probably near the year I got it as a gift. I put it away, and after a 36 year hiatus from coloring, pulled it out again and began to teach myself how to use crayons as an adult. I had worked with oils and pastels in college, but the technique was so different, so my first attempts were hideous. By the end, though, I was creating works of art. These pictures are meticulous in detail, unlike many modern stylized drawings of flowers, and I learned so much from coloring them. I am very grateful to own this book, and grateful that Dover still publishes it.
Here are some examples of my work (after I got over the hideous part!).

No. 12: Cow-lily

No. 17: Green-banded Mariposa

No. 29: Showy Lady's Slipper
